Miguel Carlos Muñoz Lecanda is an Industrial Engineer (1970, UPC), who also Graduated in Physics (1970, UB), and obtained his PhD in Mathematics in 1980 (UAB). He started his academic career at Universitat of Barcelona (1971-1976) and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1973-1982). In 1984 he joined the Department of Applied Mathematics 4 (former Department of Applied Mathematics and Telematics) of Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, where he has been Full Professor of Applied Mathematics since 1992.
Along this period, he has developed his teaching activity in the Facultad de Ciencias at UB and UAB, in the Escola Tècnica Superior de Enginyeria de Telecomunicació de Barcelona and the Facultat de Matemàticas i Estadistica at UPC, where he has taught many undergraduate and graduate courses.
His research interests are, broadly speaking, Geometric Mechanics, Geometric Classical Field Theory and Geometric Control Theory. Along his career he has published more than 75 papers in scientific journals, proceedings and books (see http://www.ams.org/mathscinet/search/publications.html?pg1=INDI&s1=128250 for a summary of these publications). He has been member of the Organizing and Scientific Commitees in different workshops and scientific meetings, and is one of the founder members of the Geometry, Mechanics and Control Network (http://gmcnetwork.org/).
He has also occupied several positions of Academic Management in the Department and at the University, as well as in different local and national Agencies.
