How to get here:

Getting to Tenerife (flight information)

There are two airports on the island of Tenerife, one on the north side (Tenerife Norte, TFN, also known as “Aeropuerto de Los Rodeos”) and the other one on the south of the island (Tenerife Sur, TFS, also known as “Aeropuerto Reina Sofía”). Both airports are at about 2,5 hours flying time from Madrid, and about 3 hours from Barcelona. San Cristóbal de La Laguna lies 5 km from TFN, and 65 km from TFS, with a motorway link covering the full journey in both cases. The easiest access is from the northern airport (TFN) along the TF-5 motorway and it takes about 10 min.

From Tenerife South Airport (TFS)

You can either catch a taxi (about 100 €); or Bus number 111 (5,40 €) from TFS to Santa Cruz de Tenerife (main bus terminal). Until 22:30 h, departure frequency is 30 min, starting at 6:00 h. The bus desk (labelled TITSA) is located at the extreme north side and the bus stop is just outside of the Arrivals terminal. The journey to Sta. Cruz bus station is about 40 min. From there, the most convenient option to reach La Laguna is to take the tram (“tranvía”) as it is really comfortable and the end of the line is very close to Hotel La Laguna Nivaria (3 min. walk). As you go out of the Bus terminal station in Sta. Cruz (East exit facing to the sea) you will see the tram station (it is the terminal station). Your destination is “La Trinidad”, the other end of Line 1. Alternatively, a taxi from the Bus terminal station in Sta. Cruz to Hotel Nivaria will cost you about 20 €.

From Tenerife North Airport (TFN)

We recommend you to take a taxi as it will just cost you about 10 €. Alternatively, bus line numer 102, 107 and 108 will take you to near the Bus terminal station in La Laguna. From there, a 15 min. walk to Hotel Nivaria.

Note: The local bus company is called TITSA, buses are painted bright green.

Introduction:

The 11th International Young Researchers Workshop on Geometry, Mechanics and Control will be the tenth anniversary of the series of workshops that have previously taken place in Madrid (2006, 2007), Barcelona (2008), Ghent (2009), La Laguna (2010), Coimbra (2012),  Madrid (2012) , Barcelona (2013), Zaragoza (2015) and Paris (2016).  Its goal is to bring together young researchers working in geometry, mechanics and control theory and to offer a platform to present the results of their research to an international audience.

The core of the workshop consists on 3 mini-courses, of 4 hours each, which serve as an introduction to different topics related to geometric structures in mechanics and control theory. The courses will be at a PhD and postdoctoral level, and it is expected that the young researchers will be, at the end of the workshop, able to access to the recent literature on the corresponding topics.

Along with the courses, there will be contributed short talks (30 minutes) and a poster session. Attendance is, of course, open to anyone, but in particular young researchers (PhD-students, recent PhD's) are encouraged to submit a talk or poster proposal.

The following is a non-exhaustive list of topics that can be covered during the workshop:

  • Geometry: (multi)symplectic geometry, Poisson and Jacobi manifolds, Lie groups, Lie algebroids and Lie groupoids.
  • Mechanics: Lagrangian and Hamiltonian systems, non-holonomic mechanics, calculus of variations, mechanical systems with symmetry, conservation laws and reduction, classical field theories, geometric integration of mechanical systems, geometric quantization.
  • Control: optimal control theory, control of mechanical systems, geometric control.
Courses:

Nicola Sansonetto (Università di Padova, Italy): Integrability and Nonholonomic Systems with Symmetry

Exercises

Marco Caponigro (CNAM, Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers, Paris, France): Stabilization and optimal control in multiagent dynamics

Alejandro Cabrera (UFRJ, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil): Introduction to supergeometry
